Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed on the Maharishi College of Natural Law campus on Thursday after three youths allegedly trespassed into the institution in an SUV and created a commotion by abusing students. Saheed Nagar police arrested the accused, identified as Imtiyaz Khan (19) of Cuttack, Santosh Mangaraj (21) of Bhubaneswar and Om Prakash Sahoo (19) of Nayagarh. All three were staying in the city’s Laxmisagar area.According to sources in the college, the trio entered the campus in the SUV without permission around noon and allegedly hurled abuses at students following a previous altercation with some of them. College principal Baishali Singha said before the college administration could intervene, students alerted police. The institution’s security personnel immediately shut the campus gates to prevent the accused from fleeing.A team from Saheed Nagar police reached the spot, detained the three and, during a search of their SUV, recovered plastic pipes from the vehicle. Based on complaints lodged by students, police registered a case and arrested the trio. Police said the exact motive behind the incident is yet to be established. However, preliminary inquiry confirmed that the accused had illegally entered the campus and created panic among students and staff.Investigators are examining CCTV footage to reconstruct the sequence of events and ascertain whether anyone else was involved in the incident. Following the incident, security has been stepped up on the college campus.
