Bhilwara: Released from Tonk jail Wednesday after securing bail from Rajasthan High Court, former legislator Naresh Meena, jailed for slapping an SDM during the Deoli-Uniara assembly bypoll, alleged a conspiracy to “kill him politically”, by trapping him in legal technicalities.Rajasthan High Court approved Meena’s bail plea on Sept 22. He had remained in jail for 45 days after which he was released. Supporters gathered outside the jail and greeted him after his release.Meena said he had faith in the judiciary from the beginning and alleged that political rivals were using legal technicalities to target him.“In politics, cases are filed even against an innocent person. If anyone has to be politically killed, then by trapping them in legal technicalities, a political killing is also being carried out. Now my focus is on the election to be held in 2028,” Meena said.Under the high court’s bail order, Meena will have to mark his presence at the police station concerned in the first week of every month. The court has also imposed other conditions, including that he should not be involved in any other crime during the bail period.The case dates back to Nov 13, 2024, when Meena was accused of slapping then SDM Amit Chaudhary during voting at Samaravta village in the Deoli-Uniara assembly bypoll. The incident was followed by violence, arson and stone-pelting in Samaravta and nearby areas, after which police arrested Meena.Meena had earlier secured bail from the high court in the case. However, after a special court cancelled his bail in July 2026, he was sent back to judicial custody. He then approached the high court again and has now been granted conditional bail.Meena said that when he was granted bail earlier, the high court had imposed conditions and he had complied with them. He said he had stayed away from sit-ins, protests and movements, but went to Jhalawar after children died there.During that period, Rajasthan Police registered a case and approached the court. The court treated it as a violation of bail conditions and sent him to jail, Meena said.“Today I express gratitude to the high court. While doing justice, it granted me bail after 45 days,” he said.
