Bhubaneswar: In a first-of-its-kind initiative to expose govt school students to diverse career opportunities at an early stage, the Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) on Saturday launched a year-long career guidance webinar series for students of Classes IX and X.According to a notification issued by OSEPA, all district project coordinators were directed to ensure that students from all govt and govt-aided secondary schools, including PM SHRI schools, participate in the online sessions. These are aimed at helping students identify their interests, strengths and aptitudes before choosing an academic stream and introducing them to emerging careers.Officials said the webinars will be streamed live on OSEPA’s YouTube channel every first and third Saturday. They added that the career counselling programme was designed to go beyond conventional professions by introducing students to a wide range of career domains. Over the course of the year, experts will interact with students on careers in police and law enforcement, journalism and mass communication, hospitality and hotel management, solar and renewable energy, agriculture and horticulture, banking and finance, allied health sciences, and vocational trades such as electrician, plumbing, automobile technology and IT.

The series will address concerns like cyber safety and responsible digital practices, while helping students understand opportunities in administrative services, state govt jobs, Skill India initiatives, climate action, fisheries, retail management and legislative law. Separate sessions have been planned on scholarships, financial assistance for higher education, and career planning after Classes X and XII.“This initiative is to bridge the information gap among secondary students in rural and underserved areas who often have limited exposure to career options beyond traditional choices. It will enable students to make informed decisions about stream selection and future education based on their interests and abilities rather than social perceptions alone,” a higher authority of OSEPA said.
