Hyderabad: The death toll in the Abdullapurmet ORR road accident rose to four after two more members of the same family succumbed to injuries late on Tuesday night while undergoing treatment at a private hospital.The accident occurred around 3.30 pm on Tuesday when a Volkswagen Polo, driven by Bengaluru-based software engineer Veda Prakash Reddy, 37, rammed a slow moving water tanker from behind on the ORR at Abdullapurmet, between Peddamberpet and Bonguloor toll plaza. Prakash Reddy died on the spot. His wife Himabindu, 28, their two-and-a-half-year-old son Arjun, his cousin Durga Prasad Reddy and the latter’s wife Srija, all tech professionals based in Bengaluru, sustained severe injuries. All the injured were shifted to a private hospital near DRDO. “Arjun succumbed on Tuesday evening. Himabindu and Prasad Reddy also died later in the night. Srija is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Jubilee Hills and her condition remains critical,” Abdullapurmet inspector V Ashok Reddy said.Police said the HMDA tanker was watering plants on the median. As no safety cones were placed to alert oncoming traffic about the slow moving vehicle, a case was registered against the tanker driver under sections 106(1) (causing death due to negligence) and 125(a) (causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the BNS.
