Patna: Bihar BJP president SanjaySaraogi on Saturday accused Opposition parties of spreading confusion and mistrust over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that repeated attacks on the Election Commission (EC) were aimed at undermining public confidence in democratic institutions.Saraogi said the revision exercise was intended to make electoral rolls more accurate and reliable. He described the deletion of duplicate entries and names of deceased voters and those who had permanently shifted as a routine exercise that would help prevent bogus voting.Questioning the Opposition’s objections, he asked why alleged irregularities in electoral rolls were not raised in constituencies won by Opposition parties. He questioned why similar allegations were not made in all elections, including those in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.The BJP leader said the EC had given political parties opportunities to verify changes made during the Bihar revision and raise concerns regarding voters whose details could not be verified.Saraogi also targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, questioning whether he was fully informed about the process. He urged Opposition leaders to base their criticism on facts rather than make allegations against constitutional institutions.His remarks come amid continuing political controversy over the SIR exercise, with Opposition parties seeking greater clarity and expressing concerns about the electoral roll revision process.Saraogi maintained that a credible electoral roll was essential for free and fair elections and said attempts to create mistrust over the exercise would not succeed.
