Prayagraj: Deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Saturday slammed the Congress and Samajwadi Party over the issue of women’s reservation and said their opposition to the key legislation has exposed their “anti-women mindset”.“These parties do not want equal participation of women in legislative bodies and remain trapped in a male-dominated thinking. But the BJP is committed to implementing women’s reservation and ensuring greater representation of women in governance,” he said while addressing party workers at the Circuit House before leaving for Lucknow. The deputy CM also criticised the Opposition parties for celebrating when the bill faced hurdles, calling it an insult to women who have been waiting for their rights for decades. He warned that the “wrath of women” would reflect in upcoming elections, including the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls and the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.“Opposition parties would have to pay a heavy political price for their stance on the issue,” he said.Targeting the Samajwadi Party, Congress, TMC and DMK, he said their opposition to the bill has exposed their true intentions.Maurya also reviewed preparations for the upcoming byelection in Ward 48 (Alopibagh) of Prayagraj Municipal Corporation. He urged party workers to intensify campaigning and inform voters, especially women, about the Opposition’s stand on women’s reservation, emphasising that the issue should be taken to every household.
