Daltonganj: Palamu district police have rolled out Operation Safaya for crackdown against illegal firearms. Palamu SP Kapil Chaudhary on Friday said it was initiated on August 4 for a focused approach against illicit weapons. As part of the operation, police have begun scrutinising Arms Act records from the past decade. According to the SP, 851 individuals were booked under various provisions of the Arms Act during this period.“We will trace and monitor those who were booked in arms cases, whether they were acquitted or are currently out on bail, to keep a close watch on any activities detrimental to society,” Chaudhary said.Prior to this, police had conducted Operation Prahar to curb narcotics under which it seized over 375 kg of cannabis, more than 6 kg of opium, 48 kg of poppy straw and 5.49 grams of brown sugar. Nineteen persons were booked in 11 FIRs during the drive.
