Patna: The state has provided all-weather road connectivity to 1.21 lakh of its 1.29 lakh rural habitations under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and Chief Minister Gram Sampark Yojana (CMGSY), leaving only 8,780 yet to be covered, the rural works department (RWD) said on Thursday. The original target was to connect 1.29 lakh habitations by constructing 1.34 lakh km of rural roads. “With most settlements now connected, only 8,780 remain to be covered,” an RWD communique said. The department said special focus is being given to villages that still lack all-weather road access. These are being linked to nearby main roads to improve connectivity and enable residents, including those in remote areas, to access economic and other opportunities. The drive will continue in the 2026-27 financial year. As part of the initiative, the RWD plans to connect 3,161 habitations by constructing 8,264.54 km of roads. The projects are being executed under PMGSY and CMGSY, with work progressing on a priority basis.
