Surat: The local crime branch (LCB) of Surat Rural police on Thursday seized 1,034kg of poppy straw, worth Rs 1.55 crore, from a container truck near Kadodara. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the seizure.Those arrested are Shravan Bishnoi and Vikram Godara, while one Vikas Bishnoi has been declared wanted in the case. Police seized the truck, worth Rs 20 lakh, in which the poppy straw was being transported.Acting on inputs received from human intelligence and technical surveillance, the LCB team tracked down the container truck at Kadodara Crossroads and inspected it. During the initial checking, nothing suspicious was found. An in-depth search uncovered a huge stash of poppy straw from a specially created concealed compartment in the container.The preliminary inquiry revealed that the accused had procured the contraband from Rajasthan and were transporting it to another location. Police registered a case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to identify the supplier and intended recipient.
