Kendrapada: One person was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly running an illegal gas cylinder business in Jagatsinghpur district. Police seized 91 illegal gas cylinders of different companies, including 87 empty cylinders, 3 filled domestic cylinders and 1 filled commercial cylinder from his rented house at Balitutha Bazaar under Kujang police station.Acting on a tip-off, we raided and caught the accused, Sarada Prasan Nayak of Badabuda village, while he was illegally storing, filling and selling gas cylinders at prices much higher than the govt-approved rates. “The racket was operating in violation of safety rules and LPG distribution norms. More raids are going on at suspected locations to uncover the network. Strict action will continue against illegal LPG activities,” said IIC of Kujang police station Banshidhar Pradhan.
The accused was booked under the provisions of Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and the LPG (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, 2000. He was produced in a Kujang court on Wednesday. The court rejected his bail application and remanded him into jail custody, added the police officer.
