Kanpur: A team of doctors at Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Emergency in Kanpur saved the life of a five-year-old boy by removing a Rs 10 coin lodged in his throat in just one minute, preventing what could have turned into a life-threatening emergency. The coin had got stuck between the windpipe and the oesophagus, and doctors said any delay could have caused it to slip into the airway, posing a serious risk to the child’s life.The child’s mother had reached out to Dr Sanjay Kala, the principal of GSVM Medical College, pleading for assistance in saving her son. In response, the principal immediately contacted Dr Harendra Kumar, head of the ENT department, and Dr Apoorv Agrawal, head of the anaesthesia department. Both specialists successfully removed the coin in just one minute after performing the required procedure.Dr Kala said that although the procedure was minor, it was critical to saving the child’s life. He said that had there been any delay in treatment, the coin could have entered the windpipe, posing a serious threat to the child’s safety. According to the family, the child was playing at home on Monday evening when he placed a Rs 10 coin in his mouth, which got lodged in his throat. After consulting a doctor, he was referred to LLR Emergency, where he was admitted and underwent the procedure.
