At least one person was killed and 15 others were injured during overnight Ukrainian drone attacks across Russia, local officials said Tuesday, with Ukraine’s military reporting that it struck an oil refinery in the southern Samara region.
Samara region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev wrote in a post on Telegram that one person was killed and four others were wounded in what he described as a “treacherous” Ukrainian strike. He did not provide any details about the victims or say where the attack took place.
The Ukrainian military said it struck the Rosneft-operated Kuibyshev refinery, located southwest of Samara’s regional capital. The facility has been targeted multiple times throughout the war.
Fedorishchev did not mention the refinery in his Telegram post, mentioning only that “the enemy was targeting industrial enterprises.”
Videos and images shared on social media purportedly showed a large, black smoke cloud rising above the Kuibyshev refinery early Tuesday.
Ukraine said it also struck the Rosneft-owned refinery Bashneft-UNPZ, which is located in the republic of Bashkortostan.
In the southwestern Belgorod region, acting Governor Alexander Shuvayev said 11 civilians had been injured in cross-border drone and artillery attacks over the past 24 hours.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said it intercepted 297 Ukrainian drones across Russia and annexed Crimea between Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine, officials reported that at least five people, including a three-year-old child, were killed in Russian attacks throughout multiple regions.
