Varanasi: Azamgarh police on Wednesday arrested a man wanted in a case related to the alleged embezzlement of govt funds released in the name of a non-existent madrasa.The accused, Jitendra Singh Chauhan, 39, a resident of Shekhwaliya village, was found to be the manager of the madrasa, Gaffarul Uloom, in Paindapur village.He was accused of fraudulently availing benefits under govt schemes and obtaining funds through forged records in the name of the madrasa.According to reports, a case was registered at Didarganj police station on Feb 19, 2025, on the basis of a written complaint lodged by inspector K. B. P. Singh of the State Special Crime Investigation Team (SIT), Lucknow.The accused was booked under Sections 409, 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC.Police said the case was also registered against a teacher of the madrasa and officials involved in granting recognition to the institution.
