Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday lamented the shrinking of green cover in Mumbai and surrounding areas, while hearing a petition by the state to fell 847 mangrove trees to lay a transmission line from Dahanu to Ambesari in Palghar district for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project.“A day may not be far when people will carry oxygen cylinders to take intermittent shots of oxygen, one shot of oxygen every three hours,’’ said Acting Chief Justice Ravindra Ghuge, while suggesting compensatory afforestation in the project’s vicinity.The Acting CJ, along with Justice Gautam Ankhad, heard petition by Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Co Ltd seeking HC’s permission as mandated by a September 2018 order regarding mangroves.
