T’puram: The week-long Onam celebrations organised across various parts of Kollam district concluded on a colourful note at Sambranikodi on Friday. The valedictory function of ‘Onakkazhcha’, jointly organised by the tourism department and District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), was inaugurated by minister Bindu Krishna.The minister said comprehensive plans would be implemented to tap the tourism potential of Sambranikodi and provide better facilities for visitors. She stressed the need to urgently implement development projects, including circuit services connecting the various islands in the region.“Onam celebrations will provide a fresh impetus to tourism destinations such as Sambranikodi,” she said.The celebrations featured a variety of cultural programmes at Thirumullavaram, Munroe Thuruthu, Kundara, Kottarakkara and Kalluvathukkal.Thrikkaruva grama panchayat president Rosamma Marshall presided over the valedictory function. Organising committee convener Prakkulam Suresh welcomed the gathering.DTPC secretary Jyothish Kesavan and other local representatives attended the event. Cultural programmes and a musical concert were held following the closing ceremony.
