Noida: A brother-sister duo died on Saturday night after an unknown vehicle hit their bike in Greater Noida’s Jarcha area.According to police, the deceased were identified as 32-year-old Naveen Kumar and his sister, 19-year-old Priyanshi. They were both residents of Pyavali village. Kumar had worked at a private company while his sister was a student. At the time of the incident, they were returning home from Dadri after Priyanshi had asked her brother to pick her up.“Around 8.30pm, when they were on their way, an unknown vehicle hit the bike from behind on Bishada Road in Jarcha. According to locals, the accused driver did not stop their vehicle and left the victims in a pool of blood,” an officer said.Naveen sustained serious injuries while Priyanshi was run over by the accused vehicle. Some locals, who recognised them, informed their family and took them to a nearby hospital. At the hospital, Naveen succumbed to his injuries and Priyanshi was declared dead on arrival.Subsequently, police received information about the accident from the hospital. The accident triggered protests among locals. Several officers were deployed to pacify the protesters.ACP Prashali Gangwar said a case against an unknown person was registered at the Jarcha police station under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the BNS. Several teams have been formed to identify the vehicle and the accused. Police are also checking CCTV cameras in nearby areas.
