PRAYAGRAJ: A 26-years-old woman constable died under mysterious circumstances after her service weapon ( INSAS rifle) went off inside the campus of Mahila Thana under the limits of Mahila Thana police station of Kaushambi district on Tuesday.Senior cops are probing whether it was an alleged suicide case or the service weapon went off accidentally.The deceased, identified as Priyanka Yadav, a 2025-batch constable posted at Mahila Thana police station in Kaushambi, was a resident of village Siddiqui (Dulharpur) Ghazipur district.She got first posting at Mahila Thana after completing her training.The incident took place at around 10:21 am on Tuesday when cops posted at Mahila Thana heard bullet sound and rushed to spot near thana gate where the woman constable was bleeding.Police said that armed with INSAS rifle she was on guard (sentry) duty.“An information regarding the incident was received on Tuesday morning from the Mahila Thana where woman constable on guard duty was critically injured near neck portion after a bullet allegedly being fired through her rifle” said a senior cop, adding that she was immediately taken to Manjhanpur district hospital where doctors declared her brought dead,” police said.Upon being alerted, senior police officials including SP (Kaushambi) Satyanarayan along with forensic experts rushed to the spot and carried out investigations.The bullet reportedly pierced the neck region and resulted in her death.The SP has also constituted a team led by Deputy SP to probe the incident. Cops have also taken her service weapon into their custody for investigations.
