Ferozepur: An old bombshell was discovered during excavation work in a field in Jhuge Hazara Singh Wala village, located near the India-Pakistan international border in Ferozepur district, on Monday, triggering panic in the area.While a JCB machine was digging, labourers spotted a suspicious, bomb-like object buried in the soil. They immediately informed the landowner, who then alerted the Army and the police.On receiving the information, the Army bomb disposal squad arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area. The surrounding vicinity was inspected in accordance with safety protocols.The recovered shell was safely secured, and further proceedings were initiated. Local police also arrived at the site to manage security arrangements.Police officials stated that preliminary investigation suggested it was an old shell. Dharamveer Singh, superintendent of police (headquarters), Ferozepur, said there was no cause to worry. He said such old shells and other military ordnance were found in the border areas in the past as well.The SP said, “Nevertheless, security agencies treat every such incident seriously and take action according to established procedures. The Army bomb disposal squad has safely removed and secured the recovered shell. It will now undergo technical analysis to determine its age and type.” MSID:: 132367982 413 |
