Mysuru: ASP C Mallik Wednesday, urged officials to step up awareness among youth about the ill effects of drug addiction and that it was a crime, speaking at the district-level Narco Coordination Committee meeting at zilla panchayat auditorium, here. He directed the officials to subject anyone suspected of being under the influence of narcotics to testing. The excise department should conduct regular raids, noting that it was a necessary step, as ganja can be grown in agricultural fields and residential backyards. He also urged the officials to impose fines on those found smoking beedis or cigarettes in public places and causing harm to others.Mallik said many have joined rehabilitation centres and successfully undergone de-addiction treatment. He also noted that in the past month, cases were registered against 80 people in 71 cases under the NDPS Act. DCP Sundar Raj and officials from various departments were present at the meeting.
