Bhubaneswar: The state govt has formally cleared the resignation of Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena and forwarded it to the ministry of home affairs for final approval, senior officials confirmed on Thursday.“As per protocol, the state govt has given its go-ahead to Meena’s resignation and transmitted it to the MHA for approval,” a home department official told TOI.Meena, who took charge as DCP Bhubaneswar on March 5, 2025, had come under sharp criticism from several quarters following a surge in crimes and his controversial handling of the daylight lynching of railway constable Soumya Ranjan Swain at Balianta on May 7. Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi had also expressed strong displeasure at the commissionerate police on the matter.On July 6, TOI first reported that Meena had submitted his resignation to the govt. Later, speaking to the media, the 37‑year‑old officer from the 2013 IPS batch said he wished to step down from govt service citing personal reasons.Sources indicated that Meena is weighing options in the private sector, with speculation rife that he may join a company owned by a close relative in Rajasthan.
