Bhubaneswar: A day after armed criminals attacked a team of Odisha police personnel in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district and freed a drug smuggler from their custody, a probe has been launched into a suspected information leak about the movement of the accused.A sub-inspector and six armed constables of Kandhamal police were transporting 28-year-old drug smuggler Aditya Mishra alias Rakesh alias Sawariya from Odisha’s Kandhamal district to Rewa in Madhya Pradesh for production before a local court, when they were attacked at Chuhiya Ghati.Kandhamal police had arrested Mishra in Rewa district on June 30. Earlier, on June 2, police seized a truck carrying around 1,470 kg ganja, valued at about Rs 1.5 crore, from Gochhapada area. Truck driver Yogesh Meena (42), a resident of Dewas district in Madhya Pradesh, was arrested and, based on his inputs, police raided a location in Rewa and arrested Mishra on June 30.“We have sent a team of officers to Madhya Pradesh to take stock of the situation. One constable, who was injured in the attack, is stable. Madhya Pradesh police are probing the attack and escape of the accused, while we are probing the suspected leakage of information about Mishra’s movement. The source of possible leak is being investigated,” a senior Odisha police officer said.Odisha police said Rewa police was informed in advance about Mishra’s scheduled court production on Tuesday. “During the movement in Madhya Pradesh, only our police personnel were present,” the officer said.
