Berhampur: Odia short film ‘Adamya’, based on the rich folk art and cultural heritage of Ganjam district, won the “Best Film” award at the Magical Cairo Montenotte International Film and Music Festival, held in Italy from Sept 18 to 20, making not just Odisha but the country proud. The award certificates reached the producer and director on Friday.The 30-minute Odia film, produced at Hinjilicut, Ganjam, was screened during the closing ceremony of the film festival.“Adamya was honoured with Best Film award. The film received appreciation from guests, members of the jury and audience,” said Simanchal Maharana, its screenwriter, who attended the festival.Chief guest and festival director, Alberto Bellavia, felicitated Maharana on behalf of the film team. The festival jury included renowned filmmakers and directors, including Edward Odresker, Tracy Van Eik, Michele Josiah, Patrick Schulz and Andrew Vandaille, who appreciated its theme, he said.Based on the folk dances of Ganjam district, particularly Bagh Nata (tiger dance) and Ranapa (dance on the sticks), the film highlights the rich culture and art of the district, said its director Krishna D K. The shooting was done at Hinjilicut and its adjoining areas, involving around 15 artists directly, he said.The international award was a significant recognition of the state’s folk art, culture and storytelling, said its director.Earlier, this film received awards for the best short film at the national-level Nirmal Pandey Smriti Film Festival in Cuttack last month and Reels International Film Festival in Aurangabad on May 17.
