Bengaluru: Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) is set to get an observation tower within the zoo premises, aimed at enhancing visitor experience and promoting conservation awareness. The project will be developed in partnership with Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies, which will fund the Rs 5-crore project through a grant. A memorandum of understanding was signed on March 24 between Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies and BBP, which is a unit under the Zoo Authority of Karnataka. The proposed 25-metre-high tower will offer panoramic views of Bannerghatta National Park and the Bengaluru skyline. It has been designed to accommodate 50-70 visitors at a time. The structure will also incorporate sustainable features such as solar energy systems and rainwater harvesting. Officials said the tower will include educational elements and curated experiences to encourage nature-based learning and responsible tourism.BBP, which attracts over 2.2 million visitors annually, plays a key role in wildlife rescue, conservation, and public education.BBP executive director AV Surya Sen said the initiative would strengthen conservation outreach while enhancing visitor engagement. “The proposed observation tower will not only enhance visitor experience through immersive, nature-based learning, but will also stand as a symbol of our dedication to environmentally responsible infrastructure,” he said.“Public institutions like Bannerghatta Biological Park are vital spaces where people can connect with nature — not merely as spectators, but as participants in a shared ecological future,” Rohini Nilekani said, expressing hope the observation tower will inspire a sense of awe for the natural world.
