Nagpur: With hours left for voting in the District Bar Association (DBA) election, the contest has sharpened into a tactical battle where numbers, timing and last-minute alliances are expected to decide outcomes. Voting will be held on April 24 from 10am to 5.30pm, with counting scheduled for the following day.At the centre of the contest is a quiet but decisive strategy: candidates are deliberately holding back about 200 to 250 votes each to strengthen their bargaining position. Election watchers say the pattern is well established. “After 3pm on D-day, equations can change overnight. Candidates often enter into tacit understandings and transfer votes to consolidate positions,” a senior member familiar with the process said.Nearly 1,300 voters were removed from the rolls under the ‘one bar, one vote’ rule, reducing the electorate to 3,370. With an estimated turnout of around 80%, roughly 2,700 to 2,800 votes are expected to be cast, making every cluster of votes critical.Six candidates are in the fray for the president’s post: Nitin Deshmukh, Prakash Jaiswal, Manoj Sable, Rajesh Nayak, Tarun Parmar and Sunil Lacharwar. The race is currently seen as triangular, though insiders suggest it could narrow to a direct contest by late afternoon on polling day. “If it becomes a straight fight, securing around 1,200 votes should be enough to win,” an election observer said.Election for secretary’s post — Anil Gulhane, Amit Band, Ashish Shende, Nitin Rude and Ashish Kataria — is widely expected to be a three-cornered fight. Analysts hint the winning margin here could be around 1,100 votes, or even near 1,000 in the event of a split verdict. A senior lawyer said, “This election is about how effectively candidates manage their numbers.”Key Election SnapshotCategory —– Numbers ——– TimelineTotal voters —– 3,370 ——– Final electoral roll 2026Expected turnout —– 2,700-2,800 (80%) ——– Poll day estimatePresidential winning mark —– 1,200 ——– Likely thresholdSecretary winning mark —– 1,000-1,100 ——– Likely thresholdVoting ScheduleEvent —– Time ——– DatePolling —– 10 am to 5.30 pm ——– April 24, 2026Counting —– Morning onwards ——– April 25, 2026Results —– Same day ——– April 25, 2026Key ContestsPost —– CandidatesPresident —– Nitin Deshmukh, Prakash Jaiswal, Manoj Sable, Rajesh Nayak, Tarun Parmar, Sunil LacharwarSecretary —– Anil Gulhane, Amit Band, Ashish Shende, Nitin Rude, Ashish Kataria
