Nagpur: Researchers at Nagpur University have developed a foldable multi-colour LED lamp designed for modern and portable use. The team, led by Dr Sanjay Janrao Dhoble along with researchers Siddheshwar M Nagpure and Aditya Jagdale, has received a UK design registration for the innovation. The lightweight, portable lamp offers yellow, blue, white, and RGB (red, green and blue) lighting options. The white LED mimics natural light, making it suitable for reading, writing, studying, household chores, and office work while ensuring accurate colour rendering and minimal strain on the eyes. It can also serve as a reliable light source during power outages or emergencies due to its low energy consumption and extended battery life. The yellow LED attracts fewer mosquitoes, helping reduce disturbances at night. Blue light can create a calming ambience and help relieve stress, while the RGB mode can synchronise with music to produce dynamic lighting effects suited for parties, events, and presentations. The lamp features a specially designed printed circuit board (PCB) that controls colour selection. Its cloth tube and air nozzle mechanism allow it to expand into a circular shape during use and fold flat for easy transport and heat management.Equipped with a hook for hanging and a magnet for attachment to metal surfaces, the lamp can be mounted on walls, tents, vehicles or other structures. It can operate on batteries or rechargeable systems, ensuring long-lasting illumination with minimal energy use.University officials, including vice-chancellor Dr Manali Kshirsagar, registrar Dr Raju Hivase, and IIL director Dr Prakash Itankar, praised the researchers for the innovation. The team expressed hope that such university-led research would translate into socially and commercially useful technologies.
