NRI, father booked for ₹7L FCI tender fraudLudhiana: City police have booked a Canada-based NRI and his father from Mohali for allegedly cheating a Ludhiana resident of ₹7 lakh on the pretext of securing a transportation tender with the Food Corporation of India (FCI) in Jalalabad.The accused — Anmol Ratan Singh and his father Balkarn Singh Bhatti of Phase 7, Mohali — allegedly took ₹15 lakh from complainant Manveer Singh Dhaliwal in 2018, claiming they had links with senior officials. While ₹8 lakh was later returned, the remaining ₹7 lakh was not repaid.Dhaliwal, a resident of Kasabad village and Punjab Youth Congress coordinator, told police he had known Anmol for nearly a decade and invested in the deal while planning to start a business after college. When the promised tender did not materialise, he made repeated follow-ups but failed to recover the remaining amount.After earlier complaints did not progress, Dhaliwal approached the Bureau of Investigation, which referred the matter back to Ludhiana, leading to the registration of an FIR at Salem Tabari police station.ASI Hardev Singh said a case has been registered under IPC sections 406, 420 and 120-B. The accused are yet to be arrested.
