While NPU and Lok Bhavan did not formally elaborate on the reason behind the postponement, varsity sources said organising the convocation was not possible as the VC’s administrative and financial powers were withdrawn on Sept 9 this year

Daltonganj: The fourth convocation of state govt-run Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU), scheduled for Tuesday, has been postponed indefinitely by Jharkhand Lok Bhavan, varsity officials said on Monday. The governor’s secretariat, in an email to NPU vice-chancellor Dinesh Kumar Singh on Oct 1, said the ceremony had been postponed and asked that the eligible applicants be issued degree certificates. While NPU and Lok Bhavan did not formally elaborate on the reason behind the postponement, varsity sources said organising the convocation was not possible as the VC’s administrative and financial powers were withdrawn on Sept 9 this year.“It was not possible to hold the convocation without powers to take and implement administrative and financial decisions,” Singh said. Lok Bhavan reportedly overlooked NPU’s fresh proposal to hold the convocation in Dec this year, sources said.Singh’s powers were withdrawn after a recent audit by the state finance department pointed at alleged financial misconduct by the VC during his tenure. He took over as VC in March 2025.Notably, NPU was established in 2009 but has witnessed only three convocation ceremonies till date. The third convocation was held in Oct last year.
