Bhubaneswar: Ex-regular candidates appearing for Annual Higher Secondary Examination (AHSE) in the state will now have to clear an internal assessment exam, with Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) approving a new set of rules that will come into effect from 2027. Under the revised system, the internal examination will carry 20 marks.The decision was approved at a meeting of the CHSE syllabus committee on Saturday.According to the new provisions, once a candidate appears for the internal examination, the marks secured will remain valid for three years. “This means candidates will not have to repeat the internal examination every time they appear for the Plus II examination during this period,” said controller of examinations for the CHSE, Prasanta Kumar Parida, adding that the changes are aimed at bringing greater uniformity in the assessment process for regular and ex-regular students.However, candidates, who fail to clear the Plus II examination within the three-year validity period of their internal assessment marks, will have to appear afresh for the 20-mark internal exam.The candidates, who are unable to appear for the internal examination at the scheduled time due to valid reasons, will be allowed to take the exam along with the theory papers, providing them an opportunity to complete the mandatory assessment without losing an examination cycle.The council is expected to incorporate the provisions into the examination regulations and communicate the detailed procedure to institutions and candidates ahead of implementation.
