Pune: Cafe Goodluck seems to be in trouble yet again after a customer allegedly found a dead cockroach in an egg bhurji that he ordered at the Mumbai-Pune Expressway outlet at Food Plaza. Officials from Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Maharashtra, told TOI that they did not receive any email or official complaint from the customer. However, officials from the FDA’s Raigad division are expected to visit the outlet on Thursday to check for hygiene standards. “We will conduct a thorough inspection of the premises to check the hygiene levels, pest control protocols and other food safety measures being undertaken by the outlet over the next couple of days,” said Milind Mahangade, assistant commissioner, FDA, Raigad division.Santosh Agrawal, who runs the outlet on the expressway, said, “I am not sure how this video has surfaced. We have all the documentation and regularly conduct pest control. We are getting everything rechecked now.” The outlet has been in operation for seven years. Videos and photos shared by the customer on social media has once again raised concerns about food safety and hygiene at restaurants and food outlets.“I usually make at least two Mumbai-Pune trips a month and often eat at the Food Plaza outlet. I am shocked to see this video and will think twice before eating there now,” said Hadapsar resident Sushil Kumar.Nisha Kulkarni, a resident of Wanowrie, said, “Goodluck cafe is really having some bad luck. We used to visit the FC Road outlet almost every weekend, but now we are reconsidering eating there.”This is the second complaint involving the cafe in the last couple of weeks. Earlier this month, FDA suspended the licence of the FC Road outlet after a glass piece was allegedly found in a food item. Suresh Annapure, joint commissioner of FDA (Pune), said the Fergusson College Road outlet recently submitted a compliance report. Main issues highlighted by the FDA at the FC Road outlet included hygiene, medical reports of staff, flooring, and water and food testing. “Once the re-checking is done and all compliances are met, we will take a decision on revoking the licence suspension,” said Annapure.
