Kolkata: Another nor’wester hit the city on Monday night, bringing rain, lightning and gusty winds — the fourth such storm this month. The Met office has not ruled out more thundershower activities in Kolkata on Tuesday.Earlier in the day, met scientist H R Biswas, head at the Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata, had said: “The rain spell is likely to be moderate, accompanied by lightning and gusty wind.”The late-evening rain brought down the mercury by two degrees. According to Met officials, the mercury would go down further.A combination of multiple weather systems is triggering the thundershowers, said weathermen. These systems include an east-west trough that runs from northeast Bihar to Manipur across North Bangladesh, Meghalaya and southeast Assam and another from Bihar to Gangetic Bengal across Jharkhand. A favourable wind pattern and moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal is also leading to the change in weather. On Monday, the maximum temperature was 2.2 notches below normal at 32.5 degrees. The minimum was 26.3 degrees. From Wednesday, the city will remain dry. The temperature is also expected to rise.
