Noida: Residents of Sector 105 have raised concerns over worsening sanitation services and unchecked growth of shrubs, grass and weeds across vacant plots in the area. They said the overgrowth has become a breeding ground for venomous and harmful insects, posing a safety risk to locals.Members of the sector’s RWA said the issue is particularly prominent at two large vacant plots under the Authority’s purview. Residents said they have repeatedly filed complaints with the Authority, but no action was taken on the ground.The situation has also worsened significantly since sanitation responsibilities were transferred from the public health department to the civil department, they claimed. Residents said that these vacant plots have turned into breeding grounds for dangerous insects and snakes, leading to fear and frustration in the community.RWA president Deepak Sharma highlighted the issues to senior officials at the Noida Authority and called for immediate action to restore sanitation and public amenities for the welfare of residents, claiming the sanitation system in the sector has declined significantly since the transfer.“Blocked drains filled with filth have not been properly maintained for an extended period. Additionally, wild grass and weeds, reportedly reaching heights of eight to 10 feet, have infested vacant plots owned by the Noida Authority, attracting venomous snakes and other hazardous wildlife close to homes,” he said.Residents said that parks here have also been neglected, with drooping trees and scattered garbage affecting both aesthetics and safety. Residents, who frequently use these parks for walks, said they felt discontent with the lack of maintenance.Urging the Noida CEO and concerned officials to take decisive action, Sharma demanded the implementation of regular, efficient cleaning of drains and sector roads, clearing overgrown weeds and wild grass from all vacant Authority plots to mitigate safety concerns, removing garbage from parks, and conducting necessary maintenance of trees.When contacted, Noida officials said that drain cleaning work is currently being undertaken ahead of the monsoon and horticulture-related work is similarly being taken up across the city. The issues in Sector 105 will be addressed soon, officials said.
