Noida: Excise department will add 25 new liquor shops in the new financial year, with an e-lottery scheduled for April 9. The move is expected to generate around Rs 30 crore in additional revenue.District excise officer Subodh Kumar said there will be 23 new country liquor shops and two composite liquor shops. “With the addition of these shops, the total number of liquor vends in the district will increase from 501 to 526,” he said.At present, Gautam Budh Nagar has 501 retail liquor shops, comprising 234 country liquor shops, 239 composite liquor shops, one bhaang shop and 27 model shops.Officials added that five shops from the previous financial year — four model shops and one country liquor shop — whose licences could not be renewed will also be included in the fresh allotment process. “A total of 30 shops will be allotted through the e-lottery, including the new shops and those pending from last year,” an excise official said. The department has already opened applications for e-lottery, with varying fee structures depending on the type of shop. The application fee for country liquor shops ranges between Rs 40,000 and Rs 65,000 and for the composite shops, it is between Rs 55,000 and Rs 90,000. For model shops, applicants will have to pay between Rs 60,000 and Rs 1 lakh.“The application fees are separate from the licence fees. Once a liquor shop is allotted through the e-lottery system, the chosen applicant is required to pay a licence fee,” Kumar said. “The licence cost varies depending on the location of the shop and its projected revenue potential.”Officials said the expansion is part of the department’s annual exercise to rationalise liquor retail distribution and boost excise revenue in the district. In the last financial year (2025-26), excise department had received 18,229 applications and generated Rs 150 crore in revenue. This was the first e-lottery draw for a licence since 2018. Before 2025, the existing shops’ licenses would get renewed every year.
