Noida: Gautam Budh Nagar saw two fire incidents within 24 hours. A fire broke out at a hostel in Greater Noida’s Kasna on Tuesday morning. The night before, a moving car caught fire in Noida’s Sector 99. No injuries were reported from either incident.Fire officials said they received information on Tuesday morning that a fire broke out at the Kasna hostel, triggered by a short circuit in an AC unit on the fifth floor. Four fire tenders were sent to the spot and the flames were brought under control.The hostel was empty at the time, a fire official said.Around 11pm on Monday night, police received information that a CNG Maruti Suzuki WagonR had caught fire in Sector 99. A team alerted fire officials and rushed to the spot.The car was a cab and the driver, Sumit Dixit, was heading towards Amrapali Sapphire from the Sector 104 side when smoke suddenly started billowing out of the ignition, an officer said. Dixit managed to park the car and safely exit it. Firefighters reached the spot and managed to extinguish the flames within half an hour.A video of the incident, recorded by a passerby, was also widely circulated on social media platforms. The clip shows the car engulfed in flames as firefighters work to control it. The incident also triggered a brief traffic jam in the area, but traffic movement was restored once the fire was controlled.Fire officials said the cause of the fire has not been ascertained yet, but they suspect it may have been caused by a short circuit in the vehicle’s cables.
