Mahanagar railway crossing

Lucknow: In relief from traffic jams caused by frequent closure of the gate at railway crossing between the road in Mahanagar that leads to Ayodhya Road, a 2-km-long road overbridge was approved at an estimated cost of Rs 164.77 crore. The ROB will benefit over 2.5 lakh people living in and around Mahanagar. The crossing on Daliganj-Badshahnagar railway section closes every hour due to increase in train movement.Frequent closure of the gate causes long traffic jams on the road connecting IT College Metro station, Mahanagar and Wireless crossing. Residents approached their MLA seeking ROB. A proposal sent to authorities is now included in the development plan.A survey found that more than 2 lakh vehicles pass through the stretch in 24 hours. Residents said the number of trains passing through the railway section increased over the past few years. Earlier, the crossing closed around eight to 10 times between 9am and 9pm, but now it closes almost every hour.UP State Bridge Corporation will construct the two-lane ROB between Ayodhya Road and Wireless Road. The bridge will pass over the railway tracks, allowing vehicles to cross the stretch without waiting for the railway gate to open. While the project is expected to ease traffic, some residents have raised concerns about its impact on the neighbourhood. They said construction could affect houses and require removal of some trees.Residents said the administration should clearly identify properties likely to be affected and explain the rehabilitation or compensation plan before construction begins.
