No truce between govt & Oppn in Rajya Sabha; Chair rejects Kharge's rule 267 plea

New Delhi: The truce between the government and opposition in the Rajya Sabha, which was witnessed during the passing of the anti-paper leak bill on Thursday, proved to be temporary. On Friday as the house resumed, the Chairman allowed MPs to raise matters of importance. The Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge once again tried to raise a point under Rule 267.

“No point will be raised under Rule 267. I have said it multiple times before. Still, you are raising it. You don’t want the house to function,” Chairman CP Radhakrishnan said in the house while allowing the members to raise matters of importance.

The opposition members, led by Congress, started protesting demanding the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the House and a statement from him regarding the use of police force against the protesting students.

Amidst the opposition sloganeering, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stood to reply to the protesting members.

“As a rule, I am present as a Cabinet Minister in the Hhouse. The opposition is doing roadside politics. They are playing with the dignity of the House. Democracy and the Constitution are being destroyed. Their behaviour is anarchic. They have nothing to do with the people of the country. The country is watching them for their act,” Chouhan said in the house.
