Kolkata: Jadavpur University found “no substance” in the allegation against mass communication professor Santwan Chattopadhyay of awarding marks without checking answer scripts. But the university cautioned assistant professor Abhishek Das as a similar allegation against him had “some substance”.PG 2 students, who have been boycotting Chattopadhyay and Das’s classes, had even forced cancellation of guest faculty interviews. The issue of ‘unchecked’ answer scripts came to light in 2024 when 50 mass communication MA students alleged they were awarded marks in a second-semester paper without evaluation by Das. They also alleged Das and Chattopadhyay did not check their internal exam answer scripts but awarded marks. A teacher said, “The batch that levelled the allegation has graduated. But some are using it to hamper academic and administrative work.” Chattopadhyay said, “The VC said the allegation against me was proved false.” An official said, “Das has been told to be careful and that any more aberration will invite action.” Das told TOI he did not have anything to say. VC Chiranjib Bhattacharjee did not respond to TOI calls. —Dipawali Mitra
