Times News NetworkKanpur: City residents are unlikely to get respite from intermittent showers over the next five days, with weather experts forecasting cloudy skies and spells of rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.SN Sunil Pandey, weather expert at Chandrashekhar Azad University (CSA), said the sky is expected to remain partly to heavily cloudy during the next five days. Light to moderate rainfall is likely at several places, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. However, the rainfall is expected to provide relief from the prevailing humidity.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued an alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms and dense cloud cover across all districts of the Kanpur division during the next 24 hours. According to the weather department, active monsoon conditions are likely to keep the region humid, with spells of rain expected across the division. The probability of heavy rain and thunderstorms has been put at more than 90 per cent during this period.Meanwhile, Kanpur received around 39 mm of rainfall till 8 am on Wednesday.Air Force Station and Naubasta recorded 59.4 mm and 51.3 mm of rainfall, respectively, during the period. The city also witnessed intermittent moderate to heavy showers during the day, disrupting traffic movement at several places.Rain that began around 7.30 pm on Tuesday continued intermittently throughout the night and Wednesday morning. The showers brought relief from the heat, though the city had witnessed bright sunshine for a couple of hours during the afternoon and evening before the rain resumed.Continuous rainfall brought down the maximum temperature to around 30 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.6 degrees Celsius. Despite the maximum relative humidity touching 97 per cent, residents did not experience severe sultry conditions as the rain lowered the daytime temperature.North-easterly winds blowing at around 9.3 kmph further added to the pleasant weather conditions, providing some relief to residents from the humidity and heat.Weather officials said the active monsoon conditions are likely to persist, and residents should remain prepared for intermittent showers and thunderstorms during the coming days.
