Srinagar, Sep 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has said that there is currently no proposal under consideration for the return of power projects to the Union Territory, with major hydroelectric projects entrusted to NHPC operating under long-term Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) arrangements.
The government has said that Sawalkot (1,856 MW), Uri-II (240 MW) and Dulhasti Stage-II (260 MW) hydroelectric projects had been entrusted to NHPC for implementation on a BOOT basis for a period of 40 years.
The government said a Memorandum of Understanding between NHPC and the Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited (JKSPDC) for the projects was signed on September 3, 2021.
An agreement for the handing over and taking over of the Sawalkot Hydroelectric Project (1,856 MW) was subsequently signed between NHPC and JKSPDC on November 11, 2021, following which NHPC took over the project for implementation under the BOOT arrangement.
The government further said implementation agreements for Uri-I Stage-II HEP and Dulhasti Stage-II HEP were signed between NHPC and JKSPDC on February 27, 2026. Both projects are being implemented on a BOOT basis for 40 years, with the projects presently under construction.
According to the government, the projects will be handed back to J&K after completion of the 40-year period from the date of commercial operation of the respective projects.
