Srinagar, Sep 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Govt. has said there is no proposal to upgrade Primary Schools to Middle Schools or Middle Schools to High Schools, while a proposal is being considered to upgrade existing High Schools in rural and far-flung areas into Higher Secondary Schools.
This was stated by government in a written reply to a question raised by Karnah MLA Javid Ahmad Mirchal in Legislative Assembly. The reply was given by the Minister In-charge of School Education.
In response to the question on whether the Government intends to upgrade existing Primary, Middle and High Schools across J&K to their respective next higher levels, the School Education Department said it is contemplating formulating a proposal for upgrading High Schools having Classes 1 to 10, mainly in rural and far-flung areas, into Higher Secondary Schools with Classes 11 and 12.
However, the Department made it clear that there is no immediate proposal to upgrade Primary Schools to Middle Schools or Middle Schools to High Schools at this stage.
Mirchal also sought details about the proposed upgradation of 10 schools in Karnah Constituency, citing persistent public demand. These include High School Chamkote, High School Tangdar, Middle School Murchana, MS Amroyee, MS Tadd to High School (Girls), Middle School Dildar, PS Magparath Nacwgbara, MS Bhatpora Kralpora, MS Aloosa Kralpora and MS Zonaresh.
In its reply, the Government said that during Phase I, all such demands, including those from Karnah Constituency, would be examined for incorporation into the proposal for upgradation of High Schools.
The Department added that consideration of these demands would depend on the availability of budgetary provisions and fulfilment of other prescribed norms and criteria.
The reply did not specify any timeline for the proposed upgradation or confirm approval for any of the 10 schools raised by the MLA.
