Hyderabad: With the Telangana govt looking to boost its fiscal resources without burdening citizens with fresh taxes, chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday directed officials to establish a dedicated monitoring cell to track revenue-related issues, plug leakages and closely monitor collections across departments.Reviewing the performance of revenue-generating departments at the MCR HRD Institute, the chief minister said the focus should be on strengthening the state’s finances while ensuring continued spending on welfare and infrastructure.Sources said the state govt is aiming to generate over ₹35,000 crore in additional revenue through improved compliance, tighter enforcement and plugging leakages, without increasing taxes or imposing any fresh burden on the public.“Step up revenue mobilisation, plug leakages in tax and non-tax collections and prepare realistic budget estimates. The govt seeks to strengthen its finances while meeting expenditure commitments on welfare and infrastructure,” Revanth said. The chief minister instructed officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority and Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation to intensify revenue mobilisation efforts. Officials from the commercial taxes, excise, mining and other departments were directed to ensure there were no leakages in revenue collection.Emphasising the need for greater administrative efficiency, Revanth asked departments to strengthen their institutional capacity and leverage technology to improve governance.“Make use of artificial intelligence to integrate beneficiary databases with the direct benefit transfer system to improve transparency and prevent duplication,” he said.On budget preparation, the chief minister called for a realistic approach and directed departments to base their projections on ground realities rather than assumptions. He said budget allocations should focus on completing pending projects and ongoing infrastructure works, with particular emphasis on land acquisition. He also cautioned officials against inflating estimates and assured departments of the government’s full support in achieving revenue targets. “Improving resource mobilisation requires continuous monitoring and accountability,” he said.
