Vadodara: A 22-year-old pregnant woman was carried on a cloth stretcher by foot for nearly two kilometres, in Chhota Udepur district on Monday. Urshi Bhil, a resident of Padvani village in Kawant taluka, delivered her baby at a community health centre. According to villagers, Bhil started suffering labour pains on Monday morning, after which they called an ambulance. As there is no motorable road to the village, family members and neighbours made a cloth stretcher and carried Bhil on their shoulders for nearly 2km. She was safely taken into the ambulance after half an hour and then rushed to a hospital. Villagers said this is the third time in five months that a pregnant woman had to be carried on a cloth stretcher in Chhota Udepur. In Oct, a 30-year-old pregnant woman died on the way in Turkheda village of Chhota Udepur when she was being carried on a cloth stretcher to the ambulance 5km away due to the absence of a motorable road.
