Nagpur: Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has constituted seven special survey teams to crack down on the alleged misuse of air-conditioning (AC) plant rooms in residential, commercial and industrial buildings across the city. The teams have been asked to submit a report within 15 days.The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by municipal commissioner Vipin Itankar on Monday after civic officials flagged instances of developers allegedly obtaining building approvals by earmarking terrace spaces as AC plant rooms and later converting them for unauthorised use in violation of sanctioned plans.Assistant director of town planning Ruturaj Jadhav and other senior officials attended the meeting, where Itankar termed the practice a serious violation of building regulations and ordered strict enforcement. According to officials, several builders have been exploiting provisions of the Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR).The seven survey teams will inspect buildings across the city to verify whether terrace-level AC plant rooms are being used in accordance with sanctioned plans. Based on their findings, the civic body will initiate action against violators under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966.Itankar warned that any deviation from the sanctioned building plan would invite stringent legal action.The civic body has appealed to developers, plot owners and builders to cooperate with the inspection teams and ensure compliance with approved plans. The drive forms part of NMC’s broader crackdown on unauthorised construction and misuse of sanctioned building spaces across the city.
