Patna: JD(U) national president and former CM Nitish Kumar on Saturday paid a surprise visit to Bapu Tower at Gardanibagh in Patna.During the visit, Nitish inspected the entire premises and viewed exhibitions portraying Mahatma Gandhi’s life, from his early years to India’s freedom struggle, through modern technology. He spent time going through the displays and other installations showcasing Gandhi’s ideals and contributions.Additional secretary, building construction department-cum-director, Bapu Tower, Vinay Kumar briefed Nitish on the exhibits, visitor facilities and arrangements at the tower. The director accompanied him during the inspection of different floors and explained various features of the memorial.Nitish’s arrival generated enthusiasm among schoolchildren, visitors and tourists present at the tower. During the visit, he interacted with students and youths, exchanged greetings with them and acknowledged their warm welcome.Accompanied by deputy leader of the ruling party in the Bihar legislative council Lalan Kumar Sarraf, Nitish also interacted with officials and staff managing the tower. He stressed the need for better, well-organised arrangements to ensure a smooth and enriching experience for visitors and tourists.Spread across a seven-acre campus, the 120-foot-tall, six-storey Bapu Tower was inaugurated by Nitish on Oct 2, 2024, to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s 155th birth anniversary. Built at an estimated cost of Rs 129 crore, the landmark has been developed as a modern centre to preserve and showcase Gandhi’s life, philosophy and contribution to the nation’s freedom movement.
