Jamshedpur: The search for 22-year-old Mir Tanveer Hasan, a fourth-year BTech student of the Metallurgical Engineering Department at NIT Jamshedpur, continued for the second consecutive day on Monday, but rescuers failed to trace him.Hasan went missing on Sunday afternoon while bathing at the Asangi check dam on the Kharkai river. He had gone to the river with two classmates, officials said. During the bath, he reportedly drifted into deeper waters and began drowning. His friends tried to rescue him immediately but could not reach him in time.RIT police first launched a search with the help of local divers on Sunday. After several hours of effort yielded no result, a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team was deployed on Monday and conducted an extensive day-long search.“After a day-long search, the NDRF suspended the operation for the day. The search will resume tomorrow morning,” said RIT police station officer-in charge Ravikanth Parashar.The incident triggered anger and anguish among NIT students. On Sunday evening, students blocked the main road near the roundabout adjacent to the institute’s main building, alleging that the administrative team reached the spot nearly two hours after being informed, raising concerns over delayed emergency response. No breakthrough was reported when the search was halted Monday.
