Dhanbad: Tension prevailed in the Gobindpur police station area of Dhanbad after villagers, led by Nirsa MLA Arup Chatterjee, demolished a boundary wall allegedly constructed on 31 acres of state govt land at Phuphuadih under Murgabani panchayat on Wednesday. Using JCB machines, villagers pulled down the wall amid loud sloganeering in support of the MLA.According to local residents, the boundary wall had allegedly been constructed in connivance with district officials to facilitate illegal occupation of govt land. Villagers claimed they had repeatedly approached the Gobindpur circle office and the office of the additional collector, but their complaints were ignored.“The villagers were forced to come forward to save the land themselves when authorities failed to act,” the MLA said. Chatterjee claimed that he had raised the matter in the state assembly. He further said that he reached the spot after receiving information from villagers and decided to remove the wall with the help of an earth mover machine which was present on site. Sources said the boundary wall was allegedly being constructed by one Trilochan Singh.Dhanbad deputy commissioner Aditya Ranjan said he had no information regarding the incident. No formal complaint has yet been lodged with either the district administration or the police over the demolition.
