Daltonganj: To overcome shortage of teachers at its degree colleges, the Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) here has roped in postgraduate toppers/gold medallists as teaching assistants. University sources said there is a 60% teacher shortage in more than half of the affiliated colleges.
So far, 18 teaching assistants have been nominated. NPU registrar Nafis Ahmad said, “Under the directive of vice-chancellor Dinesh Kumar Singh, a notification has been issued asking them to join their respective colleges by March 16.”
The degree colleges are located in Daltonganj, Manika, Latehar, Chhaterpur and Hussainabad blocks.
The VC said the engagement of teaching assistant is for 11 months. “There is no provision for extension or renewal. Each teaching assistant will get a fixed emolument of Rs 15,000,” he added.
