New Delhi: NIIT University has launched an AI Centre of Excellence that will provide students, faculty and research scholars access to enterprise-grade GPU computing and AI development tools, strengthening the university’s focus on artificial intelligence, data science and AI-led research.
The centre is designed to provide students with hands-on exposure to training, fine-tuning and deploying AI models, with access to NVIDIA-powered infrastructure and industry-standard tools.
The facility is equipped with three NVIDIA DGX YodaEdge devices, supporting up to 30 concurrent users. It will serve as a high-performance computing facility for machine learning, deep learning, edge AI, generative AI, agentic AI and data-intensive research.
The centre will also support applications in computer vision, natural language processing, large language models, intelligent IoT systems, predictive analytics and smart healthcare.
Beyond academic coursework and research, the facility will be used for faculty development programmes, technical workshops, hackathons, industry interaction and startup incubation activities.
“AI should not only be taught, it should be built,” said Prof Prakash Gopalan, President, NIIT University. “The AI Centre of Excellence reflects our commitment to experiential learning, giving students access to the same class of infrastructure and NVIDIA technologies used by leading AI organisations worldwide, right from the start of their degree.”
The technology stack includes NVIDIA DGX YodaEdge systems, NVIDIA NeMo, NVIDIA NIM Microservices, PyTorch and JupyterLab. Students will use the facility to work on generative AI applications, agentic AI systems, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, multimodal AI, robotics and perception systems, as well as model optimisation and quantisation.
The centre is also intended to support interdisciplinary research and collaboration between academia and industry.
NIIT University said practical exposure is integrated into its academic programmes through industry-originated classroom projects, summer internships and its six-month Industry Practice programme. The university said 35% of its BTech curriculum is dedicated to hands-on learning.
The AI Centre of Excellence is part of the university’s broader focus on experiential learning and industry-linked education, with the new facility providing dedicated infrastructure for AI development, research and experimentation.
