Ajmer: A CID team on Thursday detained a Nigerian student who was overstaying in Ajmer without a valid visa. The CID team has sent the student to the detention centre in Alwar district and informed the state home department, which will take further action to deport the student and blacklist him in India. According to officials, a campaign is underway against people living illegally in Ajmer. During the campaign, the department received information that Nigerian student Najeeb Isha Lawan (27) was living in Ajmer, but his visa had expired. Najeeb came to India on Sept 6, 2023, after he got admission to an MSc (IT) programme at a private university in Ajmer. However, Najeeb did not turn up at the university and roamed in different parts of India. His visa was valid for two years only. Even though he stayed in Ajmer, he did not register for a visa extension in any region of India. “A CID team, with the aid of Ajmer police, detained Najeeb and, with the help of local police, sent him to the detention centre in Alwar,” said Rajesh Meena, Additional SP of CID. tnn
