Navi Mumbai: A 41-year-old Nigerian man has been arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Navi Mumbai crime branch team for drug peddling, and mephedrone and cocaine collectively worth Rs 3.5 crore have been seized from his possession.The arrested accused has been identified as Ani Ikechukwu Darlington, a tenant at Ambika building in Rohinjan village, Taloja. An FIR under the NDPS Act. Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch led by ANC senior inspector Sandeep Nigade had laid a trap near a hotel in Taloja on the Panvel-Mumbra highway on Thursday around 6.30 pm and apprehended the accused as he was found in possession of 211 grams of mephedrone worth Rs 6.6 lakh. During the house search, the police seized a contraband of mephedrone collectively worth Rs 3.5 crore.Nigade said, “The accused was previously arrested in 2019 for drugs peddling. He was in prison for seven years and he was released on bail last year. In the past five years, a total of 2,387 NDPS cases have been registered at various police stations in Navi Mumbai police commissionerate and 3,200 accused have been arrested with seizure of a total of 1,078 kg of drugs worth around Rs 150 crore.
