Ahmedabad: National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet in a special court against a UP man, Faijan Shaikh, in connection with an online radicalisation case allegedly linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and al-Qaida.NIA has accused Shaikh of conspiring to have Kashmir and Ladakh secede from India, and planning to carry out targeted killings to spread mayhem in the country.The agency has invoked Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, BNS, and Arms Act against him.NIA said the probe in this case has revealed that the accused “…was in touch with a Pakistan-based JeM operative in furtherance of the conspiracy”. The agency has accused Shaikh of illegally procuring a firearm and six live cartridges from UP for the alleged plot.The weapon was seized during the investigation.NIA took over the case from Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in March. ATS had arrested Shaikh, a native of UP’s Dundawala, from Gujarat’s Navsari district in Jan.He has been accused of acting on the directions of his online handler, and “radicalising and incentivising vulnerable youth to promote violent jihad and armed rebellion to destroy the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India,” the NIA statement said.He was also allegedly found to have uploaded “incriminating videos projecting violence” on his Instagram account.NIA said investigators recovered various incriminating videos and photographs from his devices, leading to the filing of the chargesheet.Gujarat ATS had in Nov last year arrested three persons, including Dr Ahmed Mohiyuddin Saiyed from Telangana. ATS accused Saiyed of preparing ricin, a toxic substance derived from castor beans, to use in an attack.
